Is Emptiness Required?

People hold on to a lot of things. Even if they don't understand it, they hold on to it anyway. Even if it is hurtful, they hold on to it anyway. Even if it is weighing them down, they hold on to it anyway. They hold on because it is in those things that they try to define themselves, and it is in those things that they allow themselves to be defined. But in those definitions they realize there is nothing of significance, no identity, and yet they continue to hold on. Why?

They can't let go. No way. They're holding on to everything they think they need, everything they think they want, and everything they think they are. Even the wealthy, famous, and successful eventually realize that meaning isn't found within. It isn't found by what they hold on to. But they still can't let go.

Because to let go, to stopping holding, to empty themselves, requires them to be defined by something they aren't holding on to, something outside of themselves.

That's frightening.

That's bold.

That's going from holding to being held.

There is trust involved. There is faith involved. There is hope involved. All of which are things you can't hold on to. You can't hold on to trust, faith, and hope. But you can be held by them.

What if (and this is an important what if)…what if, holding on is preventing you from being held?

So in order to receive a true identity there has to be a letting go. There has to be a step of emptiness…... possibly, a continual step of emptiness.

If you are holding on to something, ask yourself if it is blocking the path to the emergence of the greatest version of life God designed for you?

If it is, then is emptiness required?
