I have come across some great quotes recently from people I have some form of interaction and exposure with on a weekly basis. I want to share with you the depth of their insights.
It's a no-brainer that I write down quotes from famous pastors, theologians, scholars, and powerful people. Those sources dish out meaningful, profound, and life-changing stuff all the time. I expect it from them. It seems that a sentence from John Piper holds much more water than a sentence said by my neighbor Harvey, no matter how equally profound. There is something wrong with that.
We hardly ever recognize the quote worthy sayings from our spouses, our friends, our family, our church? How much do you write down of the things you hear from people you see every month, every week, every day?
We like profound quotes because they have an impact on us. They stretch us. They demand something from us, whether a response or a just a pause. I realize now the most likely sources for impact on my life are the sources that are closest to me. Just like how God doesn't want to speak to me through the alignment of the stars in the sky, He wants to speak to me through my personal daily rhythms.
Here are some of my likely sources:
"I'm craving consistency in my life. The kind of consistency that God creates and not me."
-Kristen Tate
"People won't start taking Christians for real until Christians start taking God for real."
- Ted Kruse
"The more intense your relationship is with God, is the level of intensity to which your trust in Him will be tested. It is shown this way all throughout Scripture: Abraham, Daniel, Joseph, Paul, the list goes on."
- Jeremy Pryor
"God's currency isn't in money. It's in people's hearts. He already has all the money in the world, but he doesn't have all the hearts."
- Brittain Bollenbacher
"Praying for freedom from the idol of independence results in the exact same way as praying for patience."
- Brent Warwick
"Stay off the beaten path...."
- Joshua Pietrocini
"God led the Israelites into the desert to show them that life is unsustainable without Him. Don't be weary of deserts."
- Ted Kruse
Who are your most likely sources? What have they been saying to you lately?
